Prioritize macadamization

With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadhan, the market rates of essentials, especially the food items have started soaring, leaving the people to lurch at large. The government has been making frequent statements with regard to intensifying the market checking in Srinagar and elsewhere, but one fails to understand why there has been no respite to the people in terms of getting the essentials on the government fixed rates. From vegetables to mutton and fruits to other eatables, everything is being sold at exorbitant rates in the markets, putting a question mark over the government’s efforts. One needs to understand when the government is going to put an end to such kind of happenings as there has been no respite to people, especially during the holy month of Ramadhan. There is a need to come up with the formation of more teams in the markets to ensure that the poor are not pushed to wall as the rates are increasing with each passing day while there has been no let down in such exorbitance. The time has come when a stern action has to be initiated against the people who indulge in selling the essentials on exorbitant rates so that such happenings are put to an immediate end, which would serve an example to others and would bring some respite to the consumers, especially those belonging to downtrodden section of the society. The government must take concrete steps to ensure that all the essentials in the markets are sold as per the government fixed rates.
