Srinagar, Apr 1: Kashmir parts on Thursday received fresh intermittent rainfall, bringing down the mercury in the Valley while the weatherman here has predicted more rains till April 6th.
Reports said that some higher reaches have experienced fresh snowfall while most parts of the Valley received light rainfall from last evening.
Director Meteorological department (MeT), Sonum Lotus said that there is a possibility of partly to generally cloudy weather conditions tomorrow. He said that there is a possibility of a brief spell of rain and thunderstorm towards evening at scattered places.
From 3rd April to 6th April, Director MeT said that there is a possibility of intermittent rain and thunderstorms at many places. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by strong gusty winds, he said.
Meanwhile, the Director MeT further advised people to postpone spraying & irrigation till 6th and also travel after confirming road status from concerned traffic police.
Moreover, an Independent Weather Forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng said that Jammu and Kashmir’s rainfall shortage has continued into March, with the area experiencing a deficit of 48% for the month.
This marks the third year in a row that March has suffered from a lack of rain, he said, adding that between March 01-March 31 2023, J&K recorded a meagre 78.9 mm of rainfall, which is significantly below the average of 152.9 mm.
Meanwhile, Ladakh remained deficient by a staggering 73%, with just 1.1 mm of rainfall recorded against an average of 4.0 mm.
“March is when the Kashmir region receives the most rainfall and snowfall, with heavy snowfall in the higher areas contributing to the growth of its glaciers. While this year’s March has seen an improvement compared to that of the previous year’s March, the overall trend remains concerning,” he said. (KNO)
