Forests: The backbone of earth’s ecosystem

The streets and roads across Srinagar wear a scary look as dozens of stray dogs could be seen roaming in every area of the City, leaving the local populace to lurch at large. It has become too difficult to come out during the morning and evening prayers in Srinagar as the stray dogs have unleashed terror in every nook and corner of the City. In one such instance, a youth from Eidgah area of Srinagar was attacked by a stray dog when he was moving ahead to Masjid to offer Fajr (Morning prayers). The youth has suffered grievous injuries in his leg in the attack a few days back. The example of the youth is enough to indicate the sufferings of people in the holy month of Ramadhan as there has been no let up in the number of stray dogs, but seemingly the figure is increasing at a rapid pace. Despite claiming high and tall, the concerned Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has failed to bring any respite to the people from the worsening situation. There seems to be no visible change on the ground, leaving the local residents to suffer. There is a need to take concrete measures in this regard so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief. The measures that were highlighted by the concerned SMC should be started at an earliest so that the increasing number of stray dogs can be curbed and the persistent threat of these stray dogs will be put to an end in the localities across Srinagar.
