Day 3: Rains continue to lash Kashmir parts

MeT predicts erratic weather till May 4

Srinagar, Apr 27: Amid intermittent rainfall for the last third straight day, the government on Thursday said that there was no threat of floods at present as the water is still flowing below the alarming mark.
Several areas of Kashmir including the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir were lashed by rains for the third straight day. The higher reaches of Kashmir including Tulail in Gurez, Machil and Sadhna Top received a fresh light snowfall today.
Srinagar has received a rainfall of 43 mm in the last 24 hours while Baramulla received 43.5 mm and Budgam received a rainfall of over 36 mm in the last 24 hours, Independent Weather Forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng said.
Kulgam also received a rainfall of 30 mm and Ganderbal received 31 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Director Meteorological department (MeT), Sonum Lotus said that the intermittent rains or thunderstorm with chances of snowfall over higher reaches are expected at many places of J&K.
However, he said that there is no forecast of any major rain and snowfall with 60% chances.
He said that on April 29 and 30, the weather would remain partly cloudy while there is also a possibility of intermittent rain and thunderstorm at scattered places towards late afternoon or evening with 50% chances.
On May 01-May 03, the widespread light to moderate rain/thunderstorm is expected in J&K parts while some places would also receive heavy rainfall as per the forecast.
He said that overall the weather would remain erratic till May 04, 2023.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department, Naresh Kumar said that there was no threat of floods at present, stating that the water is still flowing below the flood alarm mark in the river Jhelum and other tributaries.
