Make more efforts to fight drug menace: DC Baramulla to officers

Baramulla, May 2: In order to review the measures taken by the enforcement agencies to curb the drug abuse and narcotics trade in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar Tuesday convened 7th meeting of the District Level Committee of Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) at Dak Bungalow, here.
Discussing action taken to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district by implementing decisions and directions passed in previous meetings, the DC asked officers of all line departments to make coordinated efforts to contain the drug peddling and break the supply chain besides taking stringent action against the persons involved in this dangerous trade.
Further, Dr Sehrish called for zero tolerance against perpetrators of drug abuse in the district.
On the occasion, the DC discussed various issues related to menace of drug addiction, areas of concern, age group of addicts, hot spots of drug peddling, abuse, besides, cultivation of illicit poppy and cannabis in the district. She said that collective efforts are needed to curb the drug menace and all stakeholders shall have to work in tandem to enhance the rehabilitation of persons involved in drug abuse.
During the meeting, the DC directed the CMO to compile a database of persons indulged in drug addiction to facilitate them for their medical treatment and recovery to save their precious lives.
She also exhorted upon the ACD and SDMs to ensure the involvement and engagement of youth clubs in various activities meant to help in eradication of the drug menace.
Dr Sehrish emphasised on conducting awareness camps in schools and colleges on mass scale to sensitize the youth about hazards and ill effects of consuming drugs.
Moreover, the DC directed concerned functionaries of Education and Health Department to get CCTV cameras installed at Schools, Colleges and all medical shops, clinical establishments and chemist/ druggist shops respectively which lie within the limits of schools, colleges and hospitals so that overall surveillance with regard to the containment of drug sales is enforced.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Additional Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Education Officer and Assistant Regional Transport officer besides other members of the Committee were present in the meeting.
