Sopore, May 11: A residential house was completely damaged in a midnight fire at the Sideeq Colony of Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, leaving the family homeless, even as the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore assured compensation.
An official said that a massive fire engulfed the residential house of Mohammad Sideeq Bhat on Wednesday-Thursday midnight.
However, there was no loss of life in the incident, he said, adding that the property worth lakhs of rupees got destroyed.
Soon after the incident, fire tenders and police rushed to the spot and doused off the flames with the help of locals, which contained its spread to nearby residential houses, the official said.
He said the cause of the fire was not immediately known and was being investigated. However, preliminary investigation reveals the short circuit as the reason for the blaze, he added.
The locals have urged the government to provide assistance to the affected family.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, who visited the spot, assured compensation to the affected family, and directed the concerned tehsildar, executive engineer and SHO Sopore to prepare a relief case and submit the details to his office within a day.
