Srinagar, May 15: Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has handed over the city’s many parking zones to Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), an official said on Monday.
A senior official at SDA said that the move was aimed at including the operations of the parking facilities in Srinagar under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS).
In view of the functioning of ITMS and subsequent operations of parking zones under the same project, we have handed over the operations of the city’s many parking facilities to SSCL, the official said, adding that the parking facilities include that of the Press Enclave, Sheikh Bagh, mechanized car parking, and one at the Residency road.
He said the properties will be of SDA; however, their operations and maintenance will now be overseen by Srinagar Smart City Limited.
“With ITMS in place, there will be real-time monitoring and information available regarding the space in the parking facilities as the project has a command centre in place,” the official said.
The Intelligent Traffic Management System not only features adaptive traffic control, red light violations, speed violations, and zebra crossing violations but also a parking space status display.
With the system of ITMS in place in Srinagar, the traffic police authorities are hopeful that the new system will automatically detect apparent traffic violations like speeding, driving without a helmet or seat belt, driving on the wrong side or while talking on the phone, traffic light violations and even overloading in public transport.
As the city is struggling with the space for parking facilities for vehicles, the Srinagar Development Authority last week operationalised the highly-anticipated 300-vehicle capacity parking zone in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
