Rajouri, May 17: Army’s Northern Commander, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday visited Rajouri and Poonch districts to review the operational preparedness, counter insurgency grid in the region.
In the twin districts, the security arrangements are already on highest state of alertness due to the G20 Summit at Srinagar as well as repeated militant incidents in the recent past.
In an official statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Defence spokesman said that Northern Commander, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi visited the Line of Control in Poonch district and Romeo Force in Rajouri.
“Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi visited two units along the Line of Control in Poonch,” the statement said.
It also mentioned about his visit to Rashtriya Rifles in Rajouri sector.
Romeo Force of Rashtriya Rifles is looking after the hinterland security in Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi districts, besides looking after the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS).
During the visit, Army Commander was briefed on the Counter Infiltration grid and processes being adopted.
“He appreciated the measures adopted and lauded the troops for maintaining the highest standards of professionalism,” the statement said, adding that the Army Commander further exhorted them to be fully prepared to meet all contingencies. (KNO)
