Sopore, May 23: Authorities in Sopore are mulling to launch recreational activities alongside wetland and Jehlum banks in north Kashmir’s Sopore.
Incharge CEO Hygam-Ningli Tarzoo development authority, Ghulam Jeelani Zargar said Sopore falling alongside wetland area and riverbanks is going to be a starting point for the water adventures tourism.
“Water cruex will be started from the Ningli Sopore area which will move towards Watlab and Bandipora covering the entire Wular lake,” Zargar said.
The measures to beautify the area was taken last year after noticing the structures at Ningli site lie in shambles conditions. The area was demarcated and fenced, he said.
He said that as of now, HNTDA – the already constituted developmental authority is going to develop a washroom, landscape and parking facilities and works are expected to be completed by September.
Locals hailed the move saying, “The move is going to create not only awareness among people but will be helpful also in generating employment opportunities especially for the fishermen community,” said Aijaz Ahmad Dar, Patron Central Auqaaf Tarzoo.
