Srinagar, May 25: The Government Medical College Srinagar is going hold a workshop cum conference on live robotic surgery workshop next month,
A senior doctor at GMC Srinagar said that the department of General and Minimal Access surgery at Govt Medical College Srinagar is gearing up for a high tech three day international workshop at GMC auditorium.
He said that event includes a live operative workshop on June 1 and 2 and the workshop comprises laparoscopic surgical procedure and advanced urological procedures to be demonstrated live by experts from within and outside the country.
“For the first time in the history of J&K and GMC Srinagar there will be a relay of Advanced Robotic Surgery from Kochi. It shall prove to be a boon for the postgraduates and young surgeons to watch the innovative surgical skills of the experts and shall provide an opportunity to them to deliberate on confounding clinical issues,” the doctor said.
He said that the aim of the conference is to highlight the quality of urological and surgical work being done in the Department of Surgery at GMC Srinagar.
The event is organised in collaboration with Kashmir Urological Society, an amalgam of top notch urologists working in Kashmir and abroad. The event will pave the way for a solid foundation of Robotic Surgery in the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery at GMC Srinagar.
“About 300 delegates from within and outside J&K have already registered for the event,” he said.
Prof Mufti Mahmood Ahmad Head of Department, General and Minimal Access Surgery GMC Srinagar said that the department of Surgery, GMC Srinagar over the last few years has moved ahead of its counterparts elsewhere on many fronts. He said that last year they conducted hands-on training of more than 200 doctors on Robotic platform to sensitise the surgeons and urologists about the new modality of surgery.
“In continuation to that endeavour, the department has taken a giant leap this year by organising relay of Live Robotic Surgery and also providing a skill development program for young surgeons and postgraduates by hands on training on state of art simulators which are being installed during conference days,” he said.
He said that this high impact workshop cum conference was inaugurated by Secretary health and medical education Bupinder Kumar on June 2.
He said that doctors from the USA, UK and other countries are attending the high level event to guide local doctors about live robotic surgeries and other things.
