Upper reaches of Gurez, Karnah receive light snowfall, rains lash plains

Srinagar, May 26: Several areas of Kashmir as well as Drass area of Kargil on Friday received light snowfall on Friday while intermittent rainfall lashed plains of Jammu & Kashmir for the third consecutive day here, bringing down the mercury in the Union Territory.
Reports said that the upper reaches of Gurez Valley and Karnah received light snowfall while Drass area in Kargil also received light snowfall this evening.
The light to moderate rains, nonetheless, lashed plains of J&K, bringing life to standstill and also the mercury down at many parts of the Union Territory.
However, the Meteorological department (MeT) here has predicted light snowfall in the upper reaches of some north Kashmir districts including Bandipora, Kupwara, and Sonamarg-Zojila-Gumri axis is expected for the next six hours.
Deputy Director MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is no significant weather till May 29 afternoon while the current spell of moderate showers with thunder, lightning is expected to continue over, many places with gusty winds at few places in the next 5-6 hours following which there is a possibility of gradual decrease in the prevalent weather conditions.
Moreover, he said that on May 27-May 28, there is a possibility of intermittent light rain, thunder, lightning at few places while on May 29-May 30, fairly widespread intermittent light to moderate rain, thunder and lightning with possibility of hailstorm and gusty winds are expected at a few places.
The MeT has also issued advisory for the farmers, advising them to suspend all farm operations during May 29 & May 30.
