Kulgam, May 27: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat on Saturday chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss various measures aimed to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district, and review the implementation of decisions and directions passed in previous meeting.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidences of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use besides cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.
The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace and cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.
The chair was informed that massive poppy destruction drives were carried out across the district and cultivated poppy was destroyed on hundreds of kanals at an early stage by the teams of Revenue, Excise, Police and RDD and other departments.
While reviewing the functioning of the Drug De-addiction Centre, the Chair was informed that the center recorded 10 recoveries during this month.
During the meeting, it was informed that in the ongoing month 20 drug peddlers have been arrested and 18 FIRs have been registered.
Earlier, the DC said that drug abuse is a serious problem that not only affects individuals, but also families and communities. He stated that it is essential to tackle the issue from multiple perspectives, including deterrence, treatment and enforcement. The DC also reiterated that the District Administration is committed to create a drug-free environment in the district and will continue to take all necessary steps to achieve this goal.
On the occasion, the DC stressed upon the Officers of all the line departments including Enforcement agencies to ensure better coordination in imposing greater deterrence to combat dangerous trade of drug-trafficking.
He said that efforts with cooperation, coordination and collaboration are vital to contain the drug peddling and break the supply chain, besides taking stringent action against the culprits involved in the hazardous trade of drugs.
The meeting was attended by ADC, Viqar Ahmed Giri; ACR, Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz; SDM Noorabad Bashir Ul Hassan and other officers from police and civil administration.
