Srinagar, May 29: The river police wing of Srinagar Police on Monday saved the lives of 21 stranded tourists during multiple sorties conducted by the speed boats.
The tourists found themselves in a precarious situation as they were stranded inside Shikaras in the Dal Lake due to an abrupt change in weather conditions and strong gusty winds.
A police official said that the rescue operation was carried out with precision and promptness to ensure the safety of all tourists who were in “immediate danger”.
“The River Police, equipped with specialised watercraft and trained personnel, swiftly reached the affected area to initiate the rescue efforts. Despite challenging conditions, the officers skillfully maneuvered through the turbulent waters of the Dal Lake to reach the stranded individuals,” he said.
Meanwhile, the authorities have issued a public advisory, urging individuals to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into the lake during inclement weather conditions.
The Srinagar police on its official Twitter handle also wrote, “River Police wing of Srinagar Police today safely rescued 21 tourists in different sorties by speed Boats. The Tourists were stranded in Shikaras inside Dal Lake, because of sudden change in weather & gusty winds. Public is advised to avoid going inside Dal in inclement weather.” (KNO)
