Anantnag, Jun 7: Tourists as well as locals in South Kashmir have demanded widening of Ashmuqam-Pahalgam route at narrow spots on fast track basis.
Tourists as well as locals said that the narrowness of the road at some spots from Ashmuqam-Pahalgam often leads to traffic jams due to which tourists as well as locals are suffering.
They said that the government must take steps to widen this important road ahead of the upcoming Yatra session so that Yatries and other tourists won’t suffer.
Zakir Hussain, a local resident, said that the government has done a good job by maintaining this vital road but there are few spots on the road where widening is needed for an hour.
He said that the government should take cognizance and widen this vital route at these spots for the safety of locals and tourists.
Nasir Ahmad, a resident of Srinagar said that these narrow spots are leading to traffic jams on the route and the government must look into it to avoid traffic jams.
Tourists as well as locals requested LG Manoj Sinha and DC Anantnag to look into the matter and take appropriate steps at an earliest.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid said that administration has already taken up the issue with concerned departments and required pre-construction feasibility and assessment process has been carried out and very soon positive results will be seen on ground.
