Ganderbal, Jun 12: The newly-established General Bus Stand and the Office of the Executive Officer Municipal Council in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have turned into hubs of stray dogs who have created a reign of fear among the locals living around the area.
As the transporters have abandoned the Bus Stand, it has turned into a garbage dumping site and a habitat for stray dogs.
The people of the area said that the Municipal Council is not maintaining the sanitation and other basic facilities in the Bus Stand which has now been occupied by stray dogs.
“Recently, a restaurant owner was fined after dumping solid waste in the yard while the Municipal Council is violating its own norms by dumping the garbage in the yard,” they alleged.
They also alleged that the dogs have been brought from other districts and dumped in the Bus Stand. “These stray dogs pose a grave threat to our lives as they have attacked many people,” said a local.
“Municipal Council Ganderbal has remained busy with the flagship programmes related to the Urban Local Bodies launched by the Government of India and has claimed great achievements in the implementation of various schemes related to sanitation and other facilities, but the condition of General Bus Stand has exposed their false claims,” he said.
The people have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to initiate action against the “erring” officials of the district’s Municipal Council and find a solution to the stray dogs issue.
