Kashmir’s new journey: From separatism, terrorism to peace, participation, progress

The mutton dealers for the first time have fixed the mutton rates on their own in Jammu and Kashmir as the government has kept itself away from managing and fixing the rates after the amendment in the law. The earlier rates set by the government was not even being ensured as the mutton dealers were never willing to follow the orders as they continue to sell the meat at exorbitant rates despite stringent action by the authorities concerned from time to time. Nonetheless, the mutton dealers have come up with fresh rates, stating that the meat with Offal will be sold at Rs 600 and without Offal will be sold at Rs 650. The rates are nearly Rs 115 extra than the previous rates fixed by the government. This seems to be the beginning of the exorbitant rate of mutton products as it is totally chaotic to understand who is going to ensure proper implementation of the mutton rates on the ground. Earlier the government used to impose fines on the mutton dealers for selling meat at exorbitant rates, but now, there is no one to ensure that the rates are completely adhered to. The question remains who is going to ensure that the rates are adhered to and who will take action in case of any violation in this regard. The people in general are seemingly heading towards suffering and the fresh rates are its beginning. There is a need to come up with some alternative to ensure that the rates are adhered to and action is taken in case the mutton dealers will push the poor people to lurch.
