Sopore, Jun 14: Inhabitants of Khan Mohalla, Mundji Zaingeer in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are up in arms against the Power development Department (PDD), with the locals accusing the department’s incompetency and failure in providing them electricity.
The agitated locals said that it has been 10 days since the village is without electricity and the department concerned is least bothered about the sufferings of people.
“Since 250KV electric transformer of our village developed a technical snag, at least five transformers were installed which didn’t sustain for a long, thus showing incompetency and using of Sub Standard material by PDD in repairing the transformers,” said Ubaid Dar, a local.
The department is accusing them of resorting to overload, which is far from the reality as only 50 households are dependent on 250KV transformer, said Shabir Ahmed, another local.
The residents, however, threatened to hit the streets, in case the demands are not met and urged the administration as well as the concerned department for their early intervention.
Executive Engineer PDD, Javeed Ahmed said that the transformers were installed, but developed snags. “Within a day or two, the transformer will be installed and the area will receive electricity,” he said.
