Eliminate drug menace

At a time when the world observed International Day against the drug abuse and illegal trafficking, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has taken an ugly turn as the number of youngsters as well as the females who are involved in the drug addiction have increased rapidly in the last few years, which is a matter of great concern for one and all. The administration including the Jammu and Kashmir have taken a series of steps to eradicate the drug menaces and arrested several people along with the drugs in different areas across Jammu and Kashmir, but the situation has not improved yet. Besides, the administration’s initiative “Mission Waapsi” has not brought any major relief, though some activities have taken place in which several youth have been counselled and also received the treatment as well, but the society has continued to witness the increasing number of the drug addiction among the people, especially the young generation. In the meantime, it is important to understand that the situation cannot be controlled until and unless there is cooperation from the general public and especially the religious clerics. During the programme held in this regard Monday, 50 religious clerics have joined hands to cooperate with the administration to fight against the drug menace. Therefore, there is a need to take all the preventive measures as well as launching a serious and massive campaign against the drug menace at an earliest. The priority in this regard should be to identify all the smugglers and drug peddlers so that the drug dealing is put to an end, which would help in reducing the drug addiction simultaneously. The role of every single individual is pivotal and nobody should refrain from performing their duties in this regard.
