Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

With the absence of government’s interference, the people from all across the Valley, especially in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, are being openly looted in the markets as there has been no adherence to the rates set by the mutton dealers recently. The people are being taken on ride as the authorities have been asked not to fix rates of mutton any further. The mutton dealers from time to time have disobeyed even the government set norms as they never followed the rates and thus left the consumers to face the tremendous hardships. Similarly, after the government direction to the concerned department, it was decided that the mutton will be sold at Rs 650 per kg without offal, but unfortunately, the butchers have not adhered to even what they have promised to the people as the meat per kilogram is being sold at Rs 700 in the markets, taking advantage of the occasion as the Muslims are going to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on June 29, 2023. One fails to understand why there has been no decision from the government and why the people are being allowed to face hardships and get openly looted by the butchers and mutton dealers. Ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha, the downtrodden section of the society is being pushed to the wall as they are not able to buy the mutton to celebrate the festival. However, there is no one from the administration to pay heed to their pleas as the government has already kept itself at bay from taking action against them. The open loot in the market must be stopped forthwith and there is a need to bring some respite to the people.
