Srinagar, Jul 6: Asking administration to come clear on who are the homeless people in Jammu & Kashmir, former chief minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said those who have come to J&K after 2019 shouldn’t be included in the new scheme unveiled by administration to allocate land for “homeless” people.
“Government should clear who are these homeless people, how are you counting these homeless numbers. Are you counting those as well who have come here just a week before”, he told reporters in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Omar said those people who have come after 2019 should not be included in the scheme.
Earlier this week, LG Manoj Sinha announced that Jammu and Kashmir government has approved allotment of five marlas of land to each landless poor person under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (G) beneficiaries to build houses in the Union Territory.
On being asked about Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Omar said they won’t support any proposal which would adversely impact minority communities in the country.
“When laws were framed for the country after freedom, it is being said that Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and his companions pitched for imposition of uniform civil code but Sangh Parivar opposed that” he added.
On being asked about the hearing on petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370, Omar said that it is good that the Supreme Court has constituted a bench for hearing the case.
“We are petitioners in the case. Our two MPs are petitioners. We will fight the case to seek justice,” he said.
