Even as the government has been claiming to have more proactive measures to reduce the number of accidents, precious lives continue to be lost in Jammu and Kashmir, especially along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway where a couple of incidents have taken place in the recent and led to the loss of several lives as well. On July 05 morning, four people, including three women, were killed and eight others sustained critical injuries when an Eeco vehicle carrying passengers fell into a deep gorge on Thanamnadi-Bhangai road in Thanamandi area of Rajouri. There were similar such accidents that have taken place in the recent past, despite the efforts to reduce the number of accidents. One fails to understand how long the precious lives will be lost in Jammu and Kashmir in the road accidents. Every day, the reports are being received about the fatal road accidents here, which is devastating the dreams and hopes of the families. Be it local residents or outsiders, the man-eating roads have shattered the dreams of hundreds of families so far while the number is increasing at a rapid pace, which needs to be controlled at an earliest. There is a need to plug all the loopholes and ensure that the road accidents are declined in Jammu & Kashmir so that the precious lives could be saved on time while as the accident-prone spots should be identified where the medical emergency team should be deputed round-the-clock to ensure timely treatment to the victims.
