Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

With the reports doing rounds that the old Habba Kadal bridge will be renovated like Zero Bridge in Rajbagh area here, the locals living in the vicinity have been urging for the early measures in this regard as the present situation in wake of the illegal car parking on the both the sides of the bridge have taken heavy toll on the residents there, who face immense hardships while crossing the bridge. It has been almost two years since the situation has turned difficult for the people living in the vicinity as the people, who visit the market, usually park their vehicles illegally on the either sides of the bridge, paving small space for the commuters and pedestrians to walk and travel. The locals have time and again urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter, but unfortunately nobody has so far bothered to bring any respite to the locals, especially the commuters. One fails to understand why the concerned department has remained tight-lipped so far in this regard and why no action has been taken against the commuters who park their vehicles illegally on the bridge. Therefore, as the bridge would likely be renovated under the ongoing Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) project, the people have been urging to make the bridge exclusively pedestrian so that the situation being witnessed is not repeated in the future. It is the time when the government should start work in this regard to end the sufferings of people, which would not only bring respite to the commuters, but would also become a major attraction for the visitors in the Old City area.
