Kulgam, Jul 15: Kulgam Working Journalists Association (KWJA) on Saturday organized an oath ceremony at Rest House Chawlgam Kulgam and elected a new president and General Secretary for the body.
Tariq Yousuf has been elected as the 7th KWJA President while Mohd Azhar-Ul-Din has been elected as General Secretary unanimously, a statement issued reads.
The election working committee in May held elections for the new body for which an oath ceremony was held formally today.
The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam Showkat Ahmad Rather.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Kulgam Shabir Ahmad Khan; Deputy Superintendent of Police, G M Bhat; District Information Officer (DIO) Showkat Ahmad; Tehsildar Kulgam Bilal Ahmad, Executive Officer (EO) MC Kulgam, Irfan Ahmad, Station House Officer (SHO) Kulgam, Waseem Gull and Naib Tehsildar Kulgam, Rashid Hussain besides others were present on the occasion.
ADDC Kulgam addressing the gathering said the journalists bring the district to light. “Journalists work for the society. The media brings grievances to the administration, which helps us to redress those problems. I congratulate the new body and hope that they work for the welfare of the society and for the journalists,” he said, adding that media connects people directly to the administration and this helps in the development of district.
He also announced the officer bearers of office of the KWJA – Vice President Khurshid Alam, Spokesperson, Umaisar Gull; Treasure, Adil Bashir; Secretary Shabir Hussain; Legal Advisor, Adv Abass Ahmad. The President Bar Association, Kulgam Mohammad Amin upheld the oath ceremony.
The new body formally took an oath and promised to work for the welfare of society.
ASP congratulated the new body and he also appreciated the role the role of media. “Media brings the real problems of people and help all of us,” he said.
DIO in his address said that journalist associations need to take care of journalism ethics and set the bylaws of the associations. Besides, journalists in Kulgam are working nicely in highlighting the developmental works of the district.
“Professional ethics are important for the journalist which they must take care of. The journalist has been successfully writing against the drug menace and their story has highlighted the ill effects of drugs in society,” DIO said.
President KJWA speaking on the occasion said, the new body will work for the betterment of journalists working on the field. “We will highlight the guanine grievances of people and bring them to the notice of the administration. We have to be the people’s voice,” he said. A vote of thanks was presented by noted journalist Fayaz Jamal Bhat.
