Jammu, Jul 10: The revered Shri Machail Mata Yatra, a cornerstone of spiritual devotion in Jammu and Kashmir, will be temporarily paused from July 15 to July 24, as announced by the Kishtwar administration and the Shri Chandi Mata Sewa Samiti.
This pause is intended to facilitate final preparations for the annual pilgrimage, ensuring a safe, comfortable and spiritually fulfilling experience for the lakhs of devotees expected to participate.
The Machail Mata Yatra, dedicated to Goddess Chandi Mata, will officially commence on July 25 and continue until September 5.
The pilgrimage draws devotees from across India and beyond to the sacred Shri Chandi Mata Temple in Machail, located in the scenic Paddar region of Kishtwar district.
The temporary closure from July 15 includes critical infrastructure upgrades, including road maintenance, sanitation facilities, water supply, electricity, and enhanced security measures.
During this period devotees are encouraged to visit the Chandi Mata Temple in Nagrota on Jammu-Srinagar highway, which will remain open during this period for prayers and offerings. The temple will host special rituals to accommodate pilgrims unable to visit Machail.
Official said that the Yatra will commence on July 25, with the traditional Chhari Mubarak procession, led by the Shri Chandi Mata Sewa Samiti, departing from Jammu. The pilgrimage will conclude on September 5, 2025.
The Kishtwar district administration is working to enhance facilities along the pilgrimage route, including road connectivity from Kishtwar to Machail village, establishment of medical camps and emergency services, provision of clean drinking water and sanitation facilities, enhanced security arrangements, including police and volunteer support and temporary shelters and langar (community kitchen) services for devotees.
Pilgrims are advised to plan their journey post-July 24 and to check official updates from the Kishtwar District Administration or Shri Chandi Mata Sewa Samiti for real-time information on weather, road conditions, and registration processes.
The devotees are encouraged to register in advance through the official Yatra portal (details available at the Kishtwar District Administration website) and adhere to safety protocols, including carrying valid identification and following environmental guidelines to preserve the pristine Paddar valley.
“The temporary pause from July 15–24 is a proactive step to ensure that every devotee experiences a safe and spiritually enriching Yatra,” said a spokesperson for the Kishtwar District Administration. “We are committed to providing world-class facilities and request devotees to cooperate by planning their pilgrimage after July 24 and visiting the Nagrota temple during the closure period.”
The Machail Mata Yatra is a sacred pilgrimage to the Shri Chandi Mata Temple in Machail, Paddar in Kishtwar district, known for its spiritual significance and breathtaking Himalayan backdrop.
The Yatra, which sees participation from diverse communities, is a symbol of faith, unity, and devotion, with the Chhari Mubarak (holy mace) leading the procession each year. (KNO)
