Two infiltrators killed along LoC in Poonch: Army

Poonch, Jul 17: The army on Monday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonchs’ Krishna Ghati sector by killing two terrorists.
The infiltration attempt has taken place at a time when security forces and intelligence agencies have apprehension about possible rise in infiltration attempts in ongoing rainy season.
In an official statement issued through Jammu based defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, the Army said that in a joint operation by alert troops and Police, a major infiltration bid was foiled on the intervening night of July 16 and July 17.
The army said that , “Movement of terrorists was observed near the Poonch River moving from across the Line of Control towards own side.”
“The alert troops and Police established anti-infiltration posture in multiple tiers to prevent any terrorist from escaping,” the army said, adding that in the early hours of the morning, the contact was established which led to heavy volume of fire being exchanged.
“In the ensuing fire fight, two terrorists were hit,” the army said “It has further been informed that one of the terrorist fell on the spot while the other terrorist was observed falling in the Poonch River.”
The army said that in a deliberate and massive search operation, body of one terrorist has been recovered from the site. “Arms and ammunition have been recovered from his possession. The recovery includes one AK 74 rifle with magazine, eleven rounds and other stores for sustenance,” the army said, adding that alert troops and Jammu Kashmir Police have eliminated a major infiltration bid, which was aimed to disturb the peace in Poonch district. “Security Forces continue to remain alert on the Line of Control and are fully prepared to thwart such attempts in the future too,” the army said.
