Keep Kashmir connected

As the installation of smart meters in Srinagar city has gained pace, the protests by the consumers continue to be witnessed at multiple places in the last few days, with people demanding authorities to go for the flat rate keeping in view their poverty. The women from different areas take to the streets on a regular basis at different places to press for their demands, but the government has made it clear that the smart metering will have to continue as there was no alternative to it in any manner. However, the protests have been witnessed in the past as well, but many localities later allowed to install the smart meters following the assurances that there is no possibility of any increase in the monthly tariff, but would be completely as per the usage. In the last couple of days, the commuters had to face tough times as the people had blocked the road at different places as a mark of protest against the installation of smart meters. Several junctures were blocked Tuesday as well where the women were seen disallowing the traffic to press for their demands. But, to put an end to the hardships of commuters, there is a need to create further awareness among the masses with regard to the installation of smart meters so that the road blockage is put to an immediate end and the commuters would heave a sigh of relief. It is the time to come up with a concrete solution so that the back to back protests will not be witnessed in Srinagar anymore.
