The fingers were raised from all the corners over the much-hyped smart city project as after the overnight rainfall, several shops have got inundated at the first-ever wire-free and exclusively pedestrian market in Srinagar—Polo View, which has turned out to be a major attraction for the people visiting Srinagar as well as the local populace as well. However, the inundation of shops is seemingly a mystery as the CEO of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) has clearly rejected any fault of drainage, claiming that there was no question of any fault as the project has been carried out after thorough measures. Moreover, it is being stated that the muddy water that has entered into the shops came from the back side of the shops. An old drainage that is located at the back of the market has inundated the shops. But, one fails to understand why such an issue has never taken place in the past and why it has been witnessed only after the establishment of the market. These queries are putting a question mark over the seriousness of the administration in ensuring better facilities for the people while carrying out the developmental works under the smart city project. It is the time when the government should look into all the parameters while carrying out the works in Srinagar and elsewhere so that the people are not forced to suffer in anyway. At the shops there is a need to come up with a solution to ensure that such an event is not repeated in the future.
