Keep Kashmir connected

Even as the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has claimed to have taken steps to ensure proper drainage system in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, but the frequent rainfall in the past few days have led to the inundation of roads and streets here, causing huge inconvenience to the people. Many of the streets were inundated after moderate rainfall lashed Srinagar and adjacent areas in the last few days. Almost every lane in the City was inundated and the people here had to face tremendous hardships as the people had to commute or walk through the streets filled with muddy water. The situation witnessed in the past few days has put a question mark over the claims being made by SMC with regard to the drainage system. In the meantime, the government needs to intervene in the matter and probe where the funds have gone and how much the change has been brought after taking measures to repair the faulty drainage system. As the government’s much-hyped Smart city project, there is a need to lay a special focus on the restoration of the drainage system in the entire Srinagar so that the situation witnessed in the past few days will not be repeated in the future. The concerned Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) should take appropriate steps and measures in this regard and ensure that the sufferings of people are put to an immediate end and the residents in Srinagar city would heave a sigh of relief.
