The e-challan issued by the traffic police in Srinagar district have been pending since long while as most of the people have seemingly showed reluctance to pay the amount for violating the traffic norms in the past several months. As per the details issued by the traffic police, it has come to the fore that many vehicle owners have been challaned for over two dozen times but they have never paid heed to it and thus simultaneously resulting in piling up of the challans. According to the list, at least 7,366 e-challans are pending for want of payment in the court while the directions have been given to the people to pay the fine or face action. The number of pending challans could have been less in case the authorities would have opted to go ahead with the on the spot challan as the negligent attitude of the commuters could have been avoided with regard to paying the fine for violating the norms. However, as the authorities have issued the list, there is a need to highlight and give more advertise to the vehicle numbers so that the owners would easily identify their vehicles and pay the fine at an earliest. Moreover, the traffic police should also consider issuing on the spot challan instead of e-challan to ensure there is no pendency of the payment in the court in the future and all those violating the traffic norms will be taken to the task at the very first instance.
