Srinagar, Aug 19: In its vision document 2047, the Jammu & Kashmir government has proposed adoption of best non-lethal strategies from across the globe to ensure safety and security of common masses in the Union Territory.
The vision document, states that in the coming years, the best practices regarding non-lethal strategies is envisioned to be adopted from across the globe to create an environment in which the common citizens would feel more secure/ reassured of the safety of lives and properties. “The UT of J&K for the past few decades has been facing terrorism/ insurgency in its various forms. This, at times, creates internal law and order disturbances requiring adoption of the non-lethal strategies. These include non-lethal weapons, counter radicalization approaches and effective counselling measures. The strategies, so far, adopted, have resulted in almost negligible loss of civilian lives,” reads the document.
The vision document 2047, which was released in May 2023, is the declaration of mid-term and long-term goals of Jammu & Kashmir. It contains a detailed roadmap of all departments to be followed till 2047 for development and all other aspects.
It also talks about strict enforcement of law to deal with elements inimical to the peace of society.
The J&K government has also proposed review of existing laws to bring them in line with present day requirements. “The Home department administers various central laws as well as the existing laws of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir. The review of the laws is an ongoing process guiding by requirement of the day. However, the Home Department is in the process of reviewing various laws administered by it, which includes the Police Act of 1927, J&K Home Guards Act-1949 and Fire Force Act,” reads the documents.
As per the vision document, the expectations of the people would be taken into account while reviewing the laws.
The other measures proposed in the roadmap include people-friendly policing, efficient cadre management, progressive introduction of new technologies, maintenance of database of criminals and effective measures for welfare of police personnel. (KNO)
