PDD’s negligence puts lives at risk in Manjakote

Rajouri, Aug 19: The Power Development Department’s (PDD) negligence has put the live of Manjakote resident at risk. The department has tied electric wire to trees instead of using electric poles to tie the electric wires.
“The use of trees instead of electric poles to support the main electric wires raises numerous safety issues. Trees are unlikely to withstand harsh weather conditions, especially during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, thus posing a significant threat to residents,” a local resident said.
“The PDD department’s choice to use trees as a makeshift solution reflects a lack of foresight and proper planning. Electric poles are specifically designed to support and safeguard electric wires, ensuring reliability and minimizing potential hazards. By tying electric wires to trees, the department has not adhered to safety standards. The risk increases during rainy weather. Rains can increase the chances of branches coming into contact with the wires, leading to power outages and could pose threat to the lives of the residents. Wet conditions may also heighten the risk of electrical short circuits, further endangering the residents in the affected areas,” he added.
“It is essential for the PDD department to acknowledge their lapse in judgment and take immediate actions to rectify this. Swift measures, such as replacing the existing tree-based infrastructure with appropriate electric poles, should be implemented to mitigate the risks involved. Additionally, a comprehensive assessment of existing wiring systems and infrastructure should be conducted to ensure the safety of the residents and the reliability of the electrical supply, he said.
