Baramulla, Aug 26: Taking its fight against Drugs to a different pedestal, Baramulla police Saturday organized a seminar on drug awareness. The participants were first time NDPS accused who are former drug peddlers. This gathering was addressed by experts from legal, medical, social, societal, government, and religious fraternities.
Baramulla Police has undertaken several initiatives for eradication of drug menace in the society. Today’s event was one more step towards this direction.
The speakers spoke on a variety of subjects ranging from religious sanctions against Drugs, legal nuances of NDPS Act, govt schemes for support and rehabilitation and medical influences of drug abuse.
The participants were mainly youth who have been booked under NDPS case once or those who have been drug addicts. SSP Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure IPS while addressing the gathering emphasized on the role of civil society in curbing the demand of Drugs.
Baramulla Police has registered more than 200 cases under NDPS Act and has arrested more than 300 drug peddlers while as 54 hard-core drug peddlers have been booked under PITNDPS PSA. Police has also freezed illegal drug property worth Rs 2 crore in Baramulla. However SSP reiterated that mere police action is not sufficient to wipe off the drug menace. To achieve the goal of Drug free society, all the stakeholders must join hands and vow to contribute their bit for the welfare of the society.
The participants hailed this unique approach of police and expressed appreciation for the police work.
