With the government making efforts to ensure better facilities to the people across Jammu& Kashmir, the residents of Old City areas here have complained of contaminated water supply, stating that foul smell emanates from the drinking water being supplied to them. This is not the first time when the Old City residents have complained of water scarcity or contaminated water supply as for a long time now, the residents are being supplied water only two times in a day, which results in troublesome situations for the local people there. The government has made hectic efforts to ensure ‘Har Ghar Jal’, which was introduced to ensure that all the households get tap water instead of being forced to walk miles to fetch water to quench the thirst. However, despite the efforts, the situation in some of the areas here in Old City has turned from bad to worse as the inadequate water supply to them is pushing them to the wall. One fails to understand why the department has failed to ensure round-the-clock water supply to the consumers in Srinagar areas amid the hot and dry weather conditions in the Valley. The time has come when the top officials in the administration should intervene in the matter and ensure that all the residents here get an adequate water supply throughout the day and the drinking water supply is not contaminated so that the health of consumers is not put at risk and the residents here could heave a sigh of relief.
