Ganderbal, Sep 9: Residents of Sindhbal area in Ganderbal district on Saturday held a protest against the Jal Shati Department for lack of water supply in their neighbourhood.
The protest led by women of the area saw sloganeering against the Jal Shakti department.
A woman said their area is without water for the last one month and they are forced to drink contaminated water.
They appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Shyambir to intervene and resolve their grievances.
An official from Jal Shakti department said that a few residents are using water motors which disrupts the equitable drinking water supply to neighbouring areas.
He vowed to take stern action against those responsible for using water booster pumps.
“Our task force teams visited the spot and seized the equipment. The drive will continue to prevent the suffering of the locals,” he added.
