Srinagar, Sep 16: The Asha workers on Saturday staged a protest against the administration and demanded implementation of the minimum wages act.
Scores of Asha workers gathered at Srinagar’s press enclave and raised slogans against the administration while demanding justice.
The aggrieved workers, said, “We are being given a meagre salary of Rs 2,000/month despite working with dedication throughout the month.”
“The government is treating us like slaves, and when we ask for salaries, we are being told we are labourers. Rs 2000 per month is insufficient and thus the government needs to implement the Minimum Wages Act, so that the Asha workers could heave a sigh of relief,” they said.
“We will go on strike until the Minimum Wages Act is implemented. We should be given at least Rs 600 per day as wages, which at present is just Rs 40 a day,” said another worker, while requesting the authorities to look into this matter at earliest.
