With the government beginning a process to provide land to landless people, there are many people living in the different districts of Jammu and Kashmir, who still live in the tin sheds or wooden sheds, which depicts their miserable situation and poverty as well. In one such instance, at least 17 families who were residing in a wooden shed here at Parimpora area for a long time, have been rendered homeless after a massive blaze broke out in the area on Sunday. Such families need to be identified at this juncture as the time calls for immediate assistance to these families so that they could live a happy life from now onwards. As the district administration provided immediate assistance to the fire affected families at Parimpora, but the authorities must ascertain whether these families are worth to get the assistance under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) so that they could be handed over the land of five marlas where they could come up with a residential house. The land to landless has been promised by the government under PMAY to the people and thus there is a need to identify all such families who live in tin sheds or temporary sheds to put an end to their miseries once for all. The district administrations must be directed to identify all such families so that the government’s aim to ensure zero poverty in Jammu & Kashmir is achieved well on time and also the families, who deserve the government’s support, could heave a sigh of relief.
