Ganderbal, Oct 4: Residents residing along the banks of Nallah Sindh in Gund Roshan area have expressed deep concern over the activities of sand extractors, who they claim have compromised the stability of the embankment.
According to aggrieved residents, some sand extractors from other areas have been extracting sand from Nallah Sindh near their densely populated area in the Gaadhanz Pora, posing a threat to the lives and property of the people.
They also claimed that despite complaints to the concerned departments such as Irrigation & Flood Control and Geology & Mining departments, no action has been taken.
While the police did take action upon receiving complaints from the public, including cutting off the approach roads for the tippers used by these sand extractors, their operations persist, the locals said.
They said the embankment has been significantly weakened, posing a severe risk of erosion and potential floods.
The concerned residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal to address this critical issue.
