In yet another instance of curbing the illegal operation of the cab services in Srinagar, the unregistered cab service has faced strict action by the Regional Transport office (RTO) Kashmir as despite asked to stop operations, the cab service was found involved in taking the passengers on ride, thus disobeying the government orders. Three vehicles have been seized by the RTO Kashmir’s enforcement team Thursday while three drivers of the cab service company have also been arrested for disobeying the government orders. Pertinently, two unregistered cab services were found operating in Srinagar illegally, thus simultaneously were asked to stop operations and complete the procedure to run the services. However, it has been found that these services continue to operate in Srinagar, doing away with the necessary documents to run the business, which is not only against the norms, but simultaneously putting the lives of passengers at risk as well. It has been observed that these cab operators are charging exorbitant fare from the passengers also, which also gets ignored as the cab services are operating illegally here. It is the time to launch a special drive against all the illegal cab services here in Srinagar and other districts to check whether the necessary procedures have been followed and all the mandatory facilities are provided to the passengers. The RTO along with the Motor Vehicle departments here should take strict action against the unregistered cab services here so that the passengers are not taken on ride and only legal cab services would get a chance to serve the people here.
