Srinagar, Oct 21: Two councillors each from National Conference and Congress were appointed as executive councillors of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil on Saturday.
As part of power-sharing deal between NC and Congress, chief executive councillor Dr. Jaffer Akhone today appointed two councillors each from both the parties as executive councillors.
Details available with news agency- Kashmir News Observer (KN0) reveal that Syed Mujtaba(Trespone constituency) and Er. Punchok Tashi (Padum constituency) from National Conference were appointed as executive councillors by the CEC.
Er Punchok Tashi, a Buddhist, was appointed as EC against the berth reserved in executive council for the principal religious minority in the Hill Council.
From Congress, Kacho Mohammad Feroz (Pashkum constituency) and Zakir Hussain (Shakar constituency) were nominated as executive councillors.
Talking to KNO, CEC, Dr Jaffer Akhoon said portfolios would be allocated to them soon.
“We will allot departments to them within a day or two,” he said.
As per section 29 of LAHDC Act-1997, the executive council of these Hill Councils shall comprise of CEC and four executive councillors to be nominated by the CEC.
It further states that at least one EC member shall be nominated from amongst the principal religious minorities in the district.
The EC is the supreme decision-making body of the Council. It has the powers to approve budget and five-year plans.
