Sopore, Oct 27: Inhabitants of Ningli area in Sopore town on Friday staged a protest against the Power Development Department for low electricity voltage.
The residents blocked Sopore-Sumbal road at Ningli leading to traffic jams.
The aggrieved residents said that they are facing issues due to low voltage in the face of cold mornings and evenings.
About 300 households are getting power from a 630 KV electric transformer. But months ago, the transformer developed technical snag and was removed to the workshop for necessary repair but in return they got another transformer and since they are getting low voltage.
“We believe that the now installed transformer is not of the same capacity,” Ghulam Mohammad Sumji.
“We are suffering from the inadequate power supply and the authorities concerned must look into the grievance,” the residents said.
A PDD official in Sopore said that the area is getting an adequate power supply and denied the transformer was replaced with a low capacity one.
“Residents are resorting to illegal hooking leading to low voltage. We have carried out a drive against the violators and a number of wires, and illegal electric appliances were seized,” he said.
