Ganderbal, Nov 9: Police have seized illicit timber in Ganderbal and arrested the accused person involved in the crime.
A police party led by SHO Police Station Kangan under the supervision of SDPO Kangan at a checkpoint established at Chinner intercepted a vehicle (Load Carrier) bearing registration number JK16B-5996 who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the police party, said a spokesperson.
During the search, illicit timber was recovered from the said vehicle.
The accused driver, identified as Kaiser Ahmad Magray son of Fayaz Ahmad Magray resident of Satrina Kangan involved in the commission of crime was arrested on the spot. Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized, it added.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 126/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kangan and further investigation has been taken up.
“The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold. Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police have resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities,” it said.
