Terrorist killed in Shopian encounter

Srinagar, Nov 9: A newly recruited terrorist was killed in an encounter in Kathohalan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday.
A senior police officer said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of terrorists in Kathohalan area.
He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the terrorist fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
“During the exchange of fire, a terrorist who had joined TRF only this month, was killed while a search operation was ongoing in the area,” he said. The slain terrorist has been identified as Mysar Ahmad Dar from Vishro Shopian.
“One (01) #terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit TRF neutralised. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow.” Kashmir police zone said in a post on ‘X’.
A police spokesperson in a statement said that acting on specific information regarding the presence of terrorists in village Kathohalan area of district Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Shopian Police and Army (02 Rajput) in the said area.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon them, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.” Spokesperson said.
“In the ensuing encounter, 01 local terrorist identified as Maiser Ahamd Dar @Adil son of Ghulam Nabi Dar resident of Vishroo Payeen, linked with proscribed terror outfit TRF was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” he added.
“Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the spokesman added.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any.
