School-going adolescents exposed to narcotics, inhalants: Study

Srinagar, Nov 14: Former chief minister of erstwhile J&K state and National Conference (NC) Vice President, Omar Abdullah Tuesday said that Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Alliance (PAGD) is alive and have been organizing meetings to deliberate upon the serious issues. He also alleged that the administration’s claims “on 3-tier democracy are all hollow”.
Talking to reporters on the side-lines of the function at Tangmarg area, Omar, said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot face people on the ground and thus have even delayed the Urban Local Body (ULB) polls in J&K as well.
“The term of elected representatives of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has ended while the term of JMC and Sarpanchs and Panchs will end soon. The government claimed that it has established the 3-tier democracy in J&K and now not even a single tier has left,” he said.
Omar also lashed out at former minister and senior Apni Party (AP) leader, Ghulam Hassan Mir, accusing him of taking money to weaken his government in the past. He said that such a disclosure was made by the former Army General himself.
“You former MLA has a 40-year history of hatching conspiracy to weaken the people, but it is the time to stop the people like him by not giving them a chance again,” he said while addressing the gathering.
He further stated that he was surprised to hear the news that an Army officer involved in the killing of innocents has been granted bail.
Stating that there were promises of development after 2019, Omar said that the development as well as the jobs to youth are nowhere, instead the liquor shops have been opened in every street here.
About the order issued by the Congress government in Karnataka, he said such an order is unfortunate. “I appeal the congress top brass to reconsider the order issued in Karnataka,” he said.
