‘Nearly 60 per cent colleges of JK lack NAAC accreditation’

Srinagar, Nov 16: In Jammu and Kashmir, nearly ‘60 percent’ of colleges functioning in the region are yet to have NAAC accreditation—raising a question on curriculum coverage and teaching-learning processes in higher education institutions.
The official document available reads, “Out of 147 colleges, presently 59 colleges have already been granted National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation.”
The Kashmir university was awarded with 48th rank and Jammu university with 66th rank among the top 100 universities in the country as per India rankings 2021 university MoE for Gol.
Stating the quality assurance, the official documents read that the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) need to get accredited by NAAC for evaluating conformity to the standards of quality in terms of performance related to the educational processes and outcomes, curriculum coverage, teaching-learning processes, faculty, research, infrastructure, learning resources, organization, governance, financial well-being and student services.
Spoke initiatives, in addition to virtual labs and mass and mass media communication labs have been established by the department,” it reads.
The document further reads that the government has identified 16 GDCs to start B.VOC and 14 more GDCs identified for establishing Center for invention innovation incubation and training for increasing the employability of the youth.
“At least 30 colleges have been in the process of starting research activities by establishing research hubs under the Hub and Spoke model,” it reads.
The document further reads that 50 colleges have been identified to start skill courses of level-4 of NSQF from the basket of skill sector council.
Stating the development and welfare program, authorities have further said that higher education will lay full emphasis on various welfare programs that he must undertake.
