Shopian, Nov 17: Several Block Offices of Rural Development Department are without Block Development Officers (BDOs) in Shopian district, causing inconvenience to people.
An official said that BDOs from different blocks have been assigned additional charge to look after the affairs of headless Block Offices.
BDO Shopian has been given additional charge of three more blocks namely Zainapora, Chitragam and Kaprin. Similarly, BDO Ramnagri has been given additional charge of Block Kanjiullar while BDO Shopian (headquarters) has been given additional charge of Imamsahib block. Also, BDO Keller has been given additional charge of ARTO Shopian.
The move, according to contractors and locals, has hit them hard as their works are pending. The files are gathering dust as officials are unable to do justice with multiple posts, they added.
“Keeping a single official on multiple assignments is affecting people with wages and bills also pending for a long time,” they added.
They cited the ARTO office which has public dealing and needs a full fledged ARTO.
But assigning additional charge to BDO means people at both BDO office and ARTO will have to suffer, they said.
