In the backdrop of the deadly accident at Assar area of Doda on Thursday, the transport department has geared up to make sure that only those vehicles following the requisite documents and permissions are allowed to carry the passengers in Jammu & Kashmir. At several places, the officials from the concerned department have taken strict action against those who were found without proper documents and permissions. Many vehicles have been seized and fined in the past couple of days, which indicates seriousness by the government in curbing the fatal accidents in Jammu & Kashmir. It has been clearly stated that the passenger vehicles without a valid fitness certificate and route permit will be suspended from all services. The action against the commercial vehicles is appreciable, but these drives have not sustained for a long time in the past as the action was initiated against the offenders for only a couple of days and thereafter nobody was eager to curb the traffic violations completely. Taking strict action against the traffic violations can prove a fruitful exercise in curbing the road accidents and preventing the loss of precious lives. Therefore, a massive drive against the private as well as the passenger vehicles is the need of the hour so that the precious lives can be saved at apt time. One cannot imagine the decline in road accidents by ignoring the norm violations by a huge chunk of private vehicles on the roads, thus it is imperative to go tough against the private as well as the commercial vehicles so that a positive and a favourable result could be yielded at this juncture. It is the time to save the precious lives and therefore the concerned department should not go selective but take the steps in the right direction so that the motive behind these steps are achieved on time.
