Viewpoints at Kulgam’s Walinag draw huge crowd

Kulgam, Dec 15: The scenic viewpoints at Walinag in DK Marg helmet of Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam district, have evolved into a captivating attraction for locals and visitors alike.
The sites have drawn admirers from distant places who seek the mesmerizing beauty of the forested area.
A group of visitors shared their experience, highlighting Walinag’s status as a hidden green gem in Kulgam, embraced by pine forests and snow-capped mountains.
They said that the area surpasses the beauty of other tourist places in the Kashmir valley, adding that they have never witnessed such beautiful scenery anywhere else; it is like discovering a hidden paradise.
The government’s construction of viewpoints has further enhanced the allure of Walinag, prompting increased interest from visitors. One visitor said, “We learned about this place a few days ago from a friend who visited here, and today, we decided to explore this breathtaking locale.”
Such places need to be prioritized for development the area with green meadows is extraordinarily beautiful, beyond expression in words, he said, adding that the Kulgam administration actively promotes such scenic spots through festivals and various activities.
Ali Mohammad, a local said, the place requires a strong interest on the part of the administration, which will surely change its landscape and stimulate employment in the village.
District Development Council (DDC) member DK Marg said, “Under PRI (DDC sector) for the financial year 2023-24, we have developed viewpoints in Walinag. So far, four viewpoints have been constructed with more planned for the future.”
He said that 80 percent of the work with the estimated cost of 32 lakhs has been completed, and the viewpoints have become attractions for people. “The area holds immense potential, and we anticipate its development to rival other beautiful destinations in Kashmir,” he added.
