The grievance redressal mechanism put forth by the Jammu and Kashmir government has ensured the good governance by resolving the issues of the people at the shortest possible time. From Lieutenant Governor’s Integrated Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (JK-IGRAMS) to Director General of Police’s (DGP) Public Grievances Redressal Programme (PGRP), the general public has been provided a platform to get their issues resolved. The people from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir were seen making a beeline to meet the top rank officer in the Union Territory as they have got a much-needed platform to seek the intervention of the officer with regard to their grievances. These programmes are turning out as a major relief for the people, who were moving from pillar to post to seek the government’s attention to put an end to their sufferings. Such initiatives have bridged a gap between the common masses and the administration. The time has gone when reaching out to the top rank officials was taking weeks and months together, but the availability of the officers as well as the head of the administration itself has helped in bringing transparency and also the good governance at the doorsteps of the citizens. The government needs to come up with district, bloc and zone level public darbars on a weekly basis so that meeting an official will not be hectic for the common masses. The DGP’s PGRP should be followed by the other low run and civil administration officials so that the public grievances could be listened to and resolved in a shortest span of time.
