Kashmir’s new journey: From separatism, terrorism to peace, participation, progress

While the new designing or renovation of roads across the Srinagar, especially in the commercial hub Lal Chowk has further congested the roads for the vehicular movement at multiple places, the street vendors continue to give a further tough time to the commuters as well as the pedestrians as the roadsides are being occupied almost everywhere, but unfortunately there seems no action in this regard as the general public continue to face hardships while passing through these routes. Such an issue is being witnessed at a time when the government has already come up with the vending zone at Magarmal Bagh area of Srinagar where nearly 250 street vendors could be accommodated, thus simultaneously can bring a huge respite to the commuters. But, the situation has not changed even after spending hefty sum over its construction as the street vendors despite being provided with the spaces have shown reluctance to shift to these zones, thus leaving the people to lurch at large. The situation is however, worsening on the ground for the commuters as well as the pedestrians and calls for an immediate government action to bring respite to the people. In the first and foremost measure, the government should play its role to shift the street vendors to the vending zone so that a large chunk of space is released from the clutches of illegal road encroachers and the people could heave a sigh of relief. The roadsides need to be ensured free from the illegal occupation so that the frequent gridlocks all across Srinagar could be reduced and the commuters could heave a sigh of relief.
