Srinagar, Jan 2: In a significant political development, the Congress National Alliance Committee is understood to have favoured an alliance with INDIA bloc partners in Jammu & Kashmir for 2024 Lok Sabha polls, sources disclosed.
Sources said that the panel has pitched for a tie-up with INDIA bloc partners in J&K for the Lok Sabha polls, likely to be held in April –May this year.
The panel would its report to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on January 3 to pave the way for seat-sharing talks with allies of INDIA bloc.
Sources disclosed that local unit of Congress wants to contest on two Lok Sabha seats of J&K. “Leadership of J&K has told the party high command that it should stake claim on two seats-Jammu Lok Sabha seat and Anantnag-Rajouri or Srinagar segment,” they said.
It is pertinent to mention that National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party are allies of INDIA bloc in J&K.
National Conference has already made it clear that the seats won by INDIA bloc shouldn’t come up for discussion and only those seats held by BJP and non-INDIA alliance parties should be considered for seat-sharing.
In the last Lok Sabha polls, National Conference had won all three seats of Kashmir defeating Peoples Conference in Baramulla, PDP in Srinagar and Congress in Anantnag.
